Try using the option "-vo x11" looks like your video card may not have enough 
video ram for playback or mplayer cannot deal with xv output where the width 
of the video is > 1024 pixels. (just a guess on that last part)

I am able to play it on my machine with x11, but not xv and I have an ATI 
128MB video card using the fglrx driver from ATI. So I should have plenty of 
videoram for the xv output.
