[MPlayer-users] 5.1 still only played in stereo? (DTS)

I'm trying to feed my DTS/DD-Decoder from my musicserver with DTS or
DD5.1 soundfiles using Toslink.
My FM801 is up and running Alsa 1.09b and everything stereo works fine.
Trying to play one of these swedish testfiles with mplayer decodes it
to stereo pcm and plays it really lazy:

It looks like it plays a 44,1khz 2ch audio, so no dts and no surround.
so, forcing it to use hwdts s/pdif passthrough leads to this output
without any sound:
> mplayer -ac hwdts SURROUNDTEST_011212.wav MPlayer
> 1.0pre7-3.4.3-20050110 (C) 2000-2005 MPlayer Team
