you are spot on as always :-). Thanks for good advice, -af channels=2 works 
fine.

BTW, I filled a ticket on xiph.org anyway, as oggenc complains about 
unsupported PCM bit depth (which doesn't seem to be the issue) instead 
'wrong' number of channels.
