[MPlayer-users] Garbled voices in the background

While listening to www.npr.org/programs/scifri, I keep geeting low intermittent growling voices.  Not loud enough to cover the program audio, but very annoying.  Not sure how to describe the sound.  Kind of like a record played very slowly, possibly backward.  I don't know if this is a problem with mplayer, or the source system.

Any thoughts on this?
