I have tried it with xine-lib cvs, and while there are some kinks that
still need to be worked out, it is by a long shot the best deinterlacer
I've used on Linux.

I'd be ecstatic to see MPlayer have something like this, but I have a
hunch there might be some architectural issues. :)
