Not that this question has anything to do with mplayer, anyway...

First drop vls, use vlc instead.
Second: run  on a terminal
$ vlc --sout '#std{mux=ts,access=udp,url=192.168.0.1:1234}' orig_file

and on another one

$ mplayer udp://192.168.0.1:1234

This method works provided that orig_file contains mpeg1/2/4/h264 video
and/or mpeg/ac3/aac audio
