Well, my SB 128 PCI has at least two different output devices.
And the AC'97 sound in my laptop allows for up to 6 apps opening
/dev/pcm simultaneously, though in some rare cases it has problems when
those apps use different sample rates (driver bug?).
I once saw a chart with the capabilities of different sound cards, but
can't find it anymore :-(
