Thanks for the prompt reply. I had some other more urgent issues I needed to
tackle. I'm a bit of a novice with this. Which may be part of the problem.
The last time I used these files they were played with Real Player Basic v7.x

(I split off about 10MB from the start of one of the files and per your
request I have placed it at:
 mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/incoming/SoS-01.rm

I'm running this on Fedora Core 3 with the following RPMs installed:

mencoder-1.0pre6-1.i386.rpm
mplayer-1.0pre6-1.i386.rpm
mplayer-codecs-linux-real-20040626-1.i386.rpm
mplayer-codecs-linux-xanim-20040626-1.i386.rpm
mplayer-codecs-linux-xanim-3ivx-20040704-1.i386.rpm
mplayer-codecs-win32-20040704-1.i386.rpm
mplayer-codecs-win32-dmo-20041107-1.i386.rpm
mplayer-codecs-win32-indeo-20040704-1.i386.rpm
mplayer-codecs-win32-mjpeg2k-20040704-1.i386.rpm
mplayer-codecs-win32-qt-20041107-1.i386.rpm

mplayer-codecs-win32-real-20041107-1.i386.rpm
mplayer-gui-1.0pre6-1.i386.rpm
mplayer-vidix-1.0pre6-1.i386.rpm
mplayer-vidix-nVidia-1.0pre6-1.i386.rpm
...and some font and skin RPMs.

When I play one of the files, MPlayer produces the following output:
---
