So, if it is really a problem with the GCC Version here are infos on  
what i used.

It's GCC 3.3.3 and glibc 2.3.3.

I must confess i did not use the default build-cflags but

-O3 -march=pentium3 -mmmx -msse -mfpmath=sse -maccumulate-outgoing-args  
-minline-all-stringops -ffast-math
