actually I had to use xmms for this, not altogether satisfactory to have the 
whole cd image as one track, but better than not being able to hear this 
stuff. see below. It would be nicer to be able to use the .cue info to get 
proper tracks.

Thanks for the url and the tip - it worked perfectly.

Now to convert ape to wav using xmms ...

[1] start xmms - click "o" to get the menu

[2] select "preferences" -> "output plugins" -> Disk Writer Plugin

[3] click "Configure" and enter a directory where the output files will 
be stored.

[4] click "OK"

[5] play the file, a wav file will be created in the directory you 
selected. It also works with a playlist.

[6] feed wavs to k3b
