Well, but -af volume increased makes distortion when the sound gets loud.
AFAIK setting the volume lower in that case doesn't affect the unpleasant 
distortion, therefore it seems to me as a reason for using -softvol... What 
about adding new parameter -softvol-init-volume or something similar?
