[MPlayer-users] H.264 decode

I am trying to find a player that can do H.264 decode.  It may have been mistaken but I thought MPlayer had such support now.  I installed MPlayer-20050130 including all the codecs.  However, I cant seem to play an H.264 file when I type:
 
gmplayer <filename>.avc
 
It gives me an error:
TiVo file format detected
MPEG: No audio stream found -> no sound
MPEG: FATAL: EOF while searching sequence header
Video: Cannot read properties.
No stream found.
 
Would appreciate if someone can tell me what I might be missing.
