[MPlayer-users] No subtitles without "rewinding"

Alas, problem not fixed.  I did the following, exactly as you suggested:
yum remove mplay*
downloaded mplayer source code via CVS from the mplayer site
compiled mplayer - no apparent errors

Behavior is exactly as before:  subtitles will not appear without
"rewinding" a few seconds with the left arrow key.

I could not evaluate mencoder handling of subtitles because an attempt
to run mencoder failed with:

MPlayer was compiled without libavcodec. See README or DOCS.
MPlayer was compiled without libmp3lame support.
