mplayer dvd:// -identify -frames 0

Title lengths are included in the output from -identify (under
ID_DVD_TITLE_N_LENGTH where N is the title number).  Although I think
this is a relatively recent addition, so if you're using 1.0pre7, you
might not see this output.
