Thanks, that's useful!

If I may ask your opinion, I'm busy encoding most of my DVD collection,
in part for fun, in part for my home "media server" - mostly TV series:
Alias, Smallville, CSI, Quantum Leap, X-Files, that type of thing. I'm
using the following to encode - do you mind telling me if it's any good?

#pass-1
mencoder dvd://1 -aid 128 -oac mp3lame -lameopts cbr:br=256:mode=1:aq=9
-ovc xvid -xvidencopts bitrate=1000:gmc:hq_ac:vhq=4:pass=1 -vf
scale=720:404 -o /dev/null

#pass-2
mencoder dvd://1 -aid 128 -oac mp3lame -lameopts cbr:br=256:mode=1:aq=9
-ovc xvid -xvidencopts bitrate=1000:gmc:hq_ac:vhq=4:pass=2 -vf
scale=720:404 -o Alias\ -\ s02e17\ -\ A\ Dark\ Turn.avi

This gives me very good results for the size, but I guess there's always
room for improvement... :-)
