[MPlayer-users] why doesn't mplayer build see libavformat?

(static) means that your .so libs won't help you. You'll have to copy 
the libavformat sourcecode into the MPlayer source dir (actually into 
the libavformat subdir, just as libavcodec).

configure says:
> Check configure.log if you wonder why an autodetection failed (check whether
> the development headers/packages are installed).

How about configure.log?
