This may not be the best place to post my question, but I am assuming
many who use mplayer have already got lirc working to use remotes.

I bought a prebuilt serial ir reciever from ebay for my pc.

I have mandrake 10 with kernel 2.6.7. Downloaded lirc-0.6.6 but I
could not compile it since it was made for 2.4 kernel? I then applied
a patch for 2.6.5 kernel (lirc-2.6.5-20040404). Compiled,
and loaded the lirc_serial module.

Now I have the following devices :

I have the following modules loaded.
lsmod | grep lirc
lirc_serial 12896 0
lirc_dev 13320 2 lirc_serial

I am able to start the lircd service.
service lircd start
Starting Linux Infrared Remote Control daemon: [ OK ]

I then tried to load xmode2 with -d /dev/lirc/lirc0 . The xwindow
loads up, but I dont see any data when I press keys in a remote.

Here is my /etc/sysconfig/lircd
DRIVER_OPTS="irq=4 io=0x3f8"

I spent a lot of time on the internet, and I get conflicting
directions from different places. I would appreciate if anyone can guide
me to the right info for a serial ir reciever for 2.6 kernel.
