Now that's something fishy:
kraken:~/mplayer/main/libao2$ grep wavhdr.riff *|wc
      0       0       0
kraken:~/mplayer/main/libao2$ grep wavhdr.riff ao_pcm.c|wc
      0       0       0
kraken:~/mplayer/main/libao2$ 

So it breaks on what???
