If you have a lame-ass video card and a fast processor, using -zoom 
would solve all your problems.  Without a fast processor, though, -zoom 
will kill your framerate.

If your video card doesn't suck, you shouldn't be using -vo x11.  You 
should use a vo that can use the video card's scaling capabilities, 
xvidix and xv being the top choices.
