If you are using MPlayer under win32, the right output device might be
NUL, or try to use standard output and redirect data to NUL. The command
line syntax might appear as follows:

mplayer ...... > NUL

AFAIR, "clean" DOS offers a special device, called NUL. So the command
"dir > NUL" will produce no screen output.
