Hi again,

I just figured out why I was getting subtitles even
when I did not request them, turns out that my
.mplayer/config file was set up to automatically use
English subtitles. I believe I tried doing this to get
subtitles in the .ogm file earlier. So, in other
words, no more problems with subtitles :-).

Only question remaining now is why mplayer does not
recognize the newer alsa libs. Fortunately, the work
around is a snap.
