Wow, just done 30 minute lip-sync test - passed with flying colours - 
totally spot on!  That's with libavcodec/mpeg4/qscale=2, I'll also test 
with ffv1 but expect that to work now.

Thanks a lot Richard, also hope some of this discussion has been useful 
to others as well.
