Use the "-noodml" switch if doesn't work for you.

It's not a limit, it's an AVI extension.

AFAIK transcode itself _does_ support OpenDML, but avisplit (It's a
standalone tool, right?) does not.  Or maybe you just need to use a
newer version of transcode.  I guess I'll have a look at transcode later
today.
