libavcodec is part of the CVS build.
You get the source code from ffmpeg CVS and recursively copy the
directories libavcodec and libavformat into the MPlayer source tree.
then you configure and build
That is you dont need any external libavcodec libraries installed.

to clean  up you can do
dpkg --purge libavcodec0
dpkg --purge libavcodec1
