Could I promote my program encode2mpeg?
Download from http://spazioinwind.libero.it/encode2mpeg/encode2mpeg-0.2.0.tar.bz2

encode2mpeg -o myvcd -n n dvd://1
could do the job, but you need mjpegtools too.
There could be a/v sync issue but there are options to overcome the problem.
