This has nothing to do with mplayer.. Download stand-alone flash player
for linux from www.macromedia.com (kinda hard to find it there, I must
admit.. But the link is there somewhere).

If there is video embedded into swf, flash player will play it (although
quality won't be great).

And there is nothing "self-executing" about swf file... If it has
executable flag, that's just because CD was made with windows software.
