[MPlayer-users] ODML issue

Hi everibody,
there is something that is not clear to me about the new ODML implementation.
Up to MPlayer 1.0pre3 there were problems with avi bigger than 2GB.
You could not seek except if you recreate the index (-forceidx) or you load
a previously saved index (-loadidx).
Now with 1.0pre5 mencoder creates big avi file with ODML. MPlayer can seek
everywhere without the need of forceidx or loadidx.
But, surprise surprise, if I create the avi with -noodml, again mplayer can
seek everywhere without trouble. And the same can do MPlayer 1.0pre3.
MPlayer 1.0pre3 cannot seek if mencoder 1.0pre5 creates the avi with ODML.
I have tested this with a 4GB file.

At this point I'm asking: what is better? An avi with or without ODML?
(i.e. I have to use -noodml or not?).

My first impression is that it's better to use -noodml.

Any comments, explanations?

Giacomo
