If you type:

mencoder VTS_02_1.VOB -sws 2 -vop scale=544:304,crop=714:562:4:8 -aspect 16/9 -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:mbd=2:v4mv:trell:vbitrate=800:vpass=1 -oac mp3lame -lameopts vbr=4:q=5 -aid 128 -o test.avi

mencoder works. But if you replace

 	scale=544:304,crop=714:562:4:8
with
 	crop=714:562:4:8,scale=544:304

MEcoder seg. faults.
