what version of mplayer are you using? there is a bug untill 1.0pre4 for 
files between 1 an 2 Gb in size: the ODML indexes are not done 
correctly. Upgrade to CVS of maybe 1.0pre5 and, if necessary, use the 
-noodml option. (I had the same problem few days ago ;-) )
