No.  First of all, you aren't even using -srate in your command-line. 
Second, I've had similar problems with certain soundcards...  It's just
a matter of using one that has decent and mature drivers.  

Sound was quite good from the line-in of my Ensoniq 1371 sound card
using Alsa drivers.
