Thanks, Stefan ... it worked, although now I am getting the message

"Too many video packets in the buffer: (4096 in 8274792 bytes).
Maybe you are playing a non-interleaved stream/file or the codec failed?
For AVI files, try to force non-interleaved mode with the -ni option."

... but  even the -ni option does not stop it stopping shortly afterwards
which is strange as it plays well with PowerDVD on the WinXP drive.
