Works like a charm now an i am using Solaris9_x86 with gcc 3.3.2 
configured with --with-as=/usr/local/bin/as --with-ld=/usr/ccs/bin/ld 
--disable-nls

./mplayer

CPU: Advanced Micro Devices Duron Spitfire 903.5 MHz (Family: 6,

PS. Only hack is in loader/wrapper.h a typdef to get u_int32_t = 
uint32_t and a manual edit of config.mak and remove -rdynamic which 
/usr/ccs/bin/ld chokes on.
