[MPlayer-users] codecs.conf? where is it?

sorry for being so stupid/unknowing, but:

What do you mean exactly with 
> in mplayer sources:
is this a folder? and where can i find this one?
I suppose I have to execute there
> cp etc/codecs.conf ~/.mplayer/
but until now I get an error...
btw: I searched for a file named codecs.conf on my system but it didn't
find any...

Any further help to an idiot ;-) ?
