[MPlayer-users] Delay when opening/closing SDL vo on Mac OS X

I compiled MPlayer on Mac OS X, and I am using the SDL vo driver. 
When the driver loads, the program hangs for several seconds, and the 
busy cursor (spinning wheel) appears. After this pause, playback 
proceeds normally. When I attempt to close the player, it pauses 
again for several seconds before quitting.

Has anyone seen a similar behaviour? Any hints for getting rid of the delay?

I have tested with MPlayer 1.0rc3 and with the latest version from 
CVS (as of last night), and with SDL 1.2.6 release and the latest 
version from CVS. All versions tested exhibit the delay. The problem 
does not occur with other vo drivers, but their performance is worse, 
so I'd rather get SDL working.
