I am attempting to view a H.261 encoded stream with mplayer and not
having much luck. MPlayer is currently configured to decode H.261 using
the binary-only xanim codec 'vid_h261_1.0_linuxELFx86c6.xa'.

Unfortunately, this codec does not work, and dies with the following
error:

Opening video decoder: [xanim] XAnim codecs
VDec: Codec did not set sh->disp_w and sh->disp_h, trying workaround.
VDecoder init failed :(
Cannot find codec matching selected -vo and video format 0x31363248.

Under windows, this stream is playable with QuickTime, but the mplayer
does not currently support using the QuickTime dlls to decode H.261. In
addition, the QuickTime H.263 decoding is marked as 'crashing'.

An open-source codec for H.261 are available online as part of the
openmash:

http://www.openmash.org/lxr/source/codec/decoder-h261.cc
http://www.openmash.org/lxr/source/codec/decoder-h261.h

There is also a version of the codec in the OpenH323 source tree:

http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/openh323/openh323/src/h261codec.cxx?rev=1.61&view=auto
