(sorry, my reply was not in the thread, i used a webmail interface) 

if i let mplayer run for a few minutes, i eventually get a segfault... 

so, here is a bit more detailed report; still no gdb/debug; if you really want it, i'll try to do it when i have more time.

system is a suse 9.0 with custom 2.6 kernel; 256ram, athlon xp 1800+, radeon 9500pro, sblive digital.
