well, i'm reading the file from a nfs share, and i see that there is _no_ 
network activity when mplayer is building the odml index. 

2nd thing is that the printf is of course removed (was just a quick test), 
and the machine is already running for 10minutes, at 99% cpu usage; 

so that really makes me think that the loop is endless... 

if you want, just tell me what debug i can do
