[MPlayer-users] subtitles

Hi all
I would like to know what people have found to be the easiest 
(preferably both install and use) way to get subtitles to a text file in 
linux. At the moment I am still restricted to using 'dose for this, as 
there are a number of great tools available (subripper, subrip, etc), 
and they are, of course, double-click installs. Any recommendations for 
linux (am trying transcode, but I'm still a bit of a newbie and 
installing from source and what-have-you is still a chore...)
