More likely angel is using a laptop/lcd and a video overlay that
pre-gamma-corrects video, resulting in horrible washed out video where
very small variations in dark regions get blown up huge... :(

Are you saying hqdn3d is a bad idea? From what I could see, the noise
looked more like quantization errors in the source vob file than film
grain...
