Mmm ... ok, let me look into your suggestion. BTW my window manager is 
KDE.

Since you are so quick with the reply, I have an observation for you.

The -geometry switch (latest code taken from CVS) seems to have a 
problem in the vo_xv driver. It looks to me like the height and width 
settings are changed by the call to aspect() at line 189 in vo_xv.c. 
Perhaps aspect() should not be called if the user specifies his/her 
own window dimensions via -geometry?

I just worked around this on my machine but am happy to create a more 
generic solution and submit a patch if it would help you guys.

Also, if mplayer is compiled with XINERAMA, -geometry fails 
completely. I didn't investigate this further since I didn't need to 
scratch that particular itch!

One again I want to thank you for such a great program. Mplayer rocks!
