I'm using the opensource driver, which seems to work well, even though it's 
about 10 years old now ;-)

I haven't tried using the digital out, but -channels 6 works with analogue 
out.

You have to tell the card what you want, with "emu-dspmgr".  I haven't used 
the AC3 passthrough, but from memory you have to use emu-dspmgr to load a 
microcode module for passthrough before it will work.

You *might* also have to run "emu-config -d" to put the card in digital mode.  
Although just looking at "emu-config --help" there's an option in there for 
digital passthrough.  I guess you'll just have to fiddle with the various 
options and see which works best.
