Sure. Both mplayer and libavcodec are from CVS. All other libavcodec stuff 
works (and if libavcodec weren't there, the libdv codec would still work).

Another fun thing:

dvgrab --format dv2 test ; mplayer -vo xv -ao alsa9 test001.dv

works (with current mplayer)

dvgrab --format dv2 - |mplayer -vo xv -ao alsa9 -

doesn't.
