Hi,

> mencoder -v cdda://1 --dumpstream -o stream.dump               

mencoder cannot handle audio-only streams
nmo such option: --dumpstream
-dumpstream is mplayer only option

> mencoder -v cdda://1 -cache 5000 -oac pcm -o 1.wav

mencoder doens't support wav as output format, see -of

> mplayer cdda://1 - works fine

then try mplayer cdda://1 -dumpstream
or mplayer cdda://1 -ao pcm
