Hi, I wonder if someone can help me. I've been trying to correct this
problem for over a week....
I finally got a dvd-drive and it works fine with mplayer. Video quality
is great (specially with all great pp options, etc...):
mplayer -dvd 1 --> works fine
But when I try to encode with mencoder, I get choppy video, regardless
of the codec used (I tried copy, lavc with mpeg4....). Even this doesn't
work:
mencoder -dvd 1 -oac copy -ovc copy
mplayer test.avi --> I get choppy video
First I tought it could be related to the dvd-drive, but I made an image
of the dvd:
cp /dev/hdc /somewhere/image
If I play from the hard-drive it works fine, just like when I play from
the drive:
mplayer -dvd 1 -dvd-device /somewhere/image -->ok
But even if I just try to copy the stream I get choppy video again.
mencoder -dvd 1 -dvd-device /somewhere/image -ovc copy -oac copy
-->choppy
I use MPlayer v0.90rc4 (compiled from source) on an athlon 1.2GHz with
256MB ddr (sounds fast enough, I think).
This problem seems to occur only when the mencoder input is a dvd, since
I've been converting (recoding) some old video files (even mpeg) to divx
using lavc with good results.I also never have problems playing divx
files with mplayer(even very large vbitrates)
Thanks a lot
Washington
