[MPlayer-users] BUG: ATI Rage128 + TV-out using VESA and VIDIX

Hello,

I have a graphics card with TV-out based on ATI Rage 128 chipset.
I wanted to watch DVD movies on my TV. Problems with TV-out and
ATI cards in Linux are known, and the only solution seems VESA
--- as framebufer device for XFree or separate output driver in
mplayer. I have chosen the second solution.

When I start mplayer like this:
mplayer -vo vesa -double -dvd 1

Everything works fine, but only for movies with 4:3 aspect ratio.
When the movie has 16:9 aspect ratio I get image stretched horizontaly
on screen (but not to the full height).

When I give -zoom option aspect is OK on monitor, but TV gets dark.

I have also tried "-vo vesa:vidix" as it is said (in the documentation)
to be the only output driver where both TV-out and hardware scaling are
possible with ATI, but it doesn't work at all.

mplayer seems to crash and leave console in graphics mode making it
unusable.

There is mplayer log attached and additional system information.

Greets,
        Jacek
