Dear Johathan:

  I have tried "-cache 20000" and a bunch of other mplayer
commands without success on my VIA EPIA board. My hard disk
is a seagate IDE 80GB one and hdparm reports about 39MB/sec
in udma5 mode. -vo=xvidix

I am quite in despair now...
