Hi,

I ran into a problem which is do not allow me to pass ac3 stream to external
amplifier via my sound blaster audigy card.

I installed latest alsa 0.94 drivers on my slackware 9.0 , set all nessesery
parameters in amixer . So now I am able to play any sound via digital spdif
connected to my external AMP.

Unfortunatelly I did not succed to play a VOB files (or divx) which consist
ac3 stream . I browsed previous posts regarding this issue so I tried
different options with mplayer like:
- ao alsa9:mmap:noblock -ac hwac3
- ao alsa9 -ac hwac3
 -ao alsa9:hw:0,3 -ac hwac3
 -ao alsa9:hw:0,2 -ac hwac3
 -ao alsa9:hw:0,1 -ac hwac3

Every time I get this info:
-----------------
Checking audio filter chain for 48000Hz/2ch/16bit -> 48000Hz/2ch/8bit...
[libaf] Adding filter dummy
[dummy] Was reinitialized, rate=48000Hz, nch = 2, format = 0x00000020 and bps
= 2
AF_pre: af format: 2 bps, 2 ch, 48000 hz, big endian AC3
AF_pre: 48000Hz 2ch AC3
alsa-init: testing and bugreports are welcome.
alsa-init: requested format: 48000 Hz, 2 channels, AC3
alsa-init: compiled for ALSA-0.9.4
alsa-spdif-init: playing AC3, 2 channels
alsa-init: soundcard set to iec958:AES0=0x2,AES1=0x82,AES2=0x0,AES3=0x2
ALSA lib pcm_hw.c:1055:(snd_pcm_hw_open) open /dev/snd/pcmC0D3p failed: No
such device
alsa-init: playback open error: No such device
Could not open/initialize audio device -> no sound.
------------------

I get the same problem with "open /dev/snd/pcmC0D3p failed" with ac3dec

root at gorce:/home/!vobtest# ac3dec -C dolby-canyon.vob
Using PCM device 'iec958:AES0=0x2,AES1=0x82,AES2=0x0,AES3=0x2'
ALSA lib pcm_hw.c:1055:(snd_pcm_hw_open) open /dev/snd/pcmC0D3p failed: No
such device
snd_pcm_open: No such device
Output open failed
-------------------

I operate as root so there should not be a problem with rights :

root at gorce:/home/!vobtest# ls -la /dev/snd/pcmC0D3p
crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 116, 19 Jun 3 17:09 /dev/snd/pcmC0D3p

And here is my ./rc.modules and modules.conf :
modprobe snd-pcm
modprobe snd-pcm-oss
modprobe snd-emu10k1

modprobe snd-mixer-oss
#modprobe snd-pcm-oss
modprobe snd-seq-oss

I would appretiate any help regarding this problem.

Thanks a lot.

Darek
