Hmm, just out of curiosity, have you ever tried to recompile your kernel 
including udf support in it? This way you can mount the DVD and have a look 
at the directory structure, just to see if there's something strange. And, 
maybe, you could try copying the vobs directly to your hd and work with 
those, to see if it makes any difference.
