[MPlayer-users] hard disk problem

Hi all,
  I noticed a strange difference of performance between my dvd drive and my hard
disk: the dvd drive plays AVI and DVD perfectly, the AVI stored in the hard disk
seems to be a little jerky also with -cache 8192.

After applying  hdparm -X66 -d1 -u1 -m16 -c3 /dev/hda
my hd performance increased from:

/dev/hda:
 Timing buffer-cache reads:   1120 MB in  2.00 seconds = 560.00 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads:   12 MB in  3.45 seconds =   3.48 MB/sec

 to:

 Timing buffer-cache reads:   1108 MB in  2.00 seconds = 554.00 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads:   86 MB in  3.01 seconds =  28.57 MB/sec

 With Xine everything is smooth.
