A lot of people told me, that my Computer (P3 866 Mhz, 133 Mhz FSB,
512 333 SDRAM) should be fast enough. But I never get more than 20 fps
encoding rate. I tried the mpeg4, mjpeg and huffyuv codec, there is no
difference in speed.

Are there options which must be adjusted? I compiled mplayer from CVS
without runtime CPU detection. I used this command:

sudo nice -n -20 mencoder -tv driver=v4l:width=768:height=576:fps=25 \
     tv://36 -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mjpeg:vbitrate=1900 \
     -oac mp3lame -lameopts abr:br=128 -vf pp=lb -o stream.avi
